Dal Khichdi Tadka

Dal khichdi is  India's super healthy food recipe which is globally promoted by the government as "queen of all foods".

 Khichdi is the combination of lentils and rice but in other parts, it is also made with bajra,jowar, mung, sabudana (sago).Sago or sabudana is eaten by Hindus who observe fast and don't eat grains.
khichdi is considered as one of the first solid food that babies have.khichdi is very famous in Indian subcontinent including Nepal and Pakistan.khichdi's taste vary from one state to another in India you can have many varieties of khichdi in India.khichdi as it is a combination of  lentil and rice many green veggies goes in it, if you are preparing for toddlers you can use all types of green veggies that are rich in all nutrients and healthy for them.In some part of India, it is also served as Prasadam.khichdi is famous in Gujrat it is served with kadhi as side dish, Haryana is it made with bajra and mung dal, Bihar it is prepared with dal and rice with lot's of ghee served with bharta it is quite famous in Orissa served with papad, pickle curd. Pongal similar to khichdi is served in South India,bisi bele bhaat is a famous variant of khichdi served in Karnataka like these many variants of khichdi served along India. Khichdi is easily digestible super healthy food

Ingredients :

1/2 cup Toor Dal/Pigeon Lentil

1/2 cup Rice

1/2tsp.Turmeric powder

1tsp.Coriander powder

1/2tsp.Red chili powder

1tsp.Garam masala powder

2 Medium sized onion chopped

2 Medium sized tomato

3-4 Green chili

1-2 Slit red chili

5-6 Garlic cloves

1tbsp.Ginger chopped

Lemon juice (optional)

1 tsp cumin seed and mustard seed

5-6 curry leaves

Chopped coriander

Pinch of asafoetida




Method :

Wash both lentil and rice nicely and let it soak for 10-15 min.

Add rice and lentil in a cooker add turmeric powder, salt, and water to it, pressure cook it for 3-4 whistle

Add water to khichdi if required or according to the consistency required and mix well

In a pan take ghee/oil then add cumin mustard seed along with a dash of asafoetida, now goes in chopped garlic, ginger green chili when they are done add curry leaves, red chili chopped onions cook all well until they turn pinkish

Add dry spices to it coriander, red chili, and garam masala mix all well let it cook for a second add chopped tomato to it let it cook nicely, check it after 5minutes now goes the khichdi in it mix it well, Let it cook for 5-7 minutes after that add some lemon juice according to taste.

Khichdi is ready to serve hot with some ghee, boondi raita,dahi, papad, salad, and pickle anything of your choice


Note :

Khichdi should be served hot with ghee

Can be made with mung/urad/chana/masoor any of these lentils

Green veggies can be added if serving to toddlers
